On-X Ascending Aortic Prosthesis

• It is a combination of On-X mechanical heart valve and Valsalva gelatin-impregnated polyester woven artificial blood vessel. The Gelweave Valsalva™ artificial blood vessel was grafted onto the annulus structure of the On-X valve to create the aortic mechanical valve. A reference marker is provided on the outside of the graft for implant support.
• The On-X® prosthetic heart valve is a bicuspid mechanical heart valve of the second generation, consisting of an orifice and mitral. The flow area through the valve is designed to reduce flow turbulence, and the flow boundary has fin guards when they are in the closed position. The two leaflets rotate around fulcrums located within the inner circumference of the annulus. When the valve is closed, each leaflet forms a nominal angle of 40° with respect to the plane of the orifice. When the valve is open, each leaf makes a 90-degree angle to the plane of the orifice. Two arc leaves move 50 degrees to the closed position. The valve holes are composed of carbon coated with Carbon On-X®, a form of pure pyrolysis carbon. Two foils contain On-X® carbon deposited on graphite, mixed with 10% tungsten with water resistance.
• Gelweave Valsalva™ Artificial Vessel is a gelatin-coated polyester vascular prosthesis designed to replace the shape of the valsalva sinus. The graft is impregnated with a readily absorbable protein (mammal gelatin) to eliminate surgical surface coating of the graft. Gelatin is crosslinked to an extent to control its rate of elimination. After implantation, the gelatin hydrolyzed within about 14 days and was replaced with normal tissue. Gelatin is an antigen-free and non-toxic protein as reflected in its use as a safe plasma extender.
