On-X Prosthetic Heart Valve

  • It is a bicuspid mechanical heart valve, consisting of one orifice and two leaflets.
  • The flow area through the valve is designed to reduce flow turbulence, and the flow boundary has fin guards when they are in the closed position.
  • The two leaflets rotate around fulcrums located within the inner circumference of the annulus.
When the position valve is closed, normally each leaflet forms an angle of 40° with respect to the plane of the orifice. When the valve is in the open position, each leaf normally makes a 90 degree angle to the plane of the orifice.
  • Two arc leaves move 50 degrees to the closed position.
  • Manufacturer: On-X Life Technologies, Inc
  • Origin: USA
Aortic Prosthetic Heart Valve:
Both aortic valve types are available in sizes 19,21,23,25 and 27/29 mm. The standard mitral annulus is available in sizes 23,25,27/29 and 31/33, while the aortic ring  Conform-X® is only available in size 25/33.
Standard mitral valve ring:
Available in sizes 23,25,27/29 and 31/33, while the Conform-X® aortic ring is only available in size 25/33.
Aortic valves:
Sizes from 19 mm to 25 mm are designed for the convex annular position, while the 27/29 mm size is designed for the concave annular position. The mitral valve sizes are designed for the convex annular suture position.
Valve holes:
Composed of carbon coated with Carbon On-X®, a pure form of pyrolysis carbon. The two foils contain On-X® carbon deposited on graphite, mixed with 10% by weight of tungsten for a front opacity.
Sewing cuff:
Composed of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) mounted on the valve hole using titanium retaining rings and 5-0 suture material. The shape of the stitch ring attached to the valve hole allows the stitch ring to rotate during the valve replacement procedure. Reference orientation markers are provided on the stitch ring for valve orientation.
